Director of Admissions and Recruitment
The Akilah Institute is seeking a qualified professional to develop and manage the growing Admissions & Recruitment department. This individual will launch and manage the 5th admissions intake process at Akilah, driving the recruitment strategy and identifying high potential female leaders who will succeed in our rigorous academic environment. The Admissions Director will first oversee recruitment and admissions for our Agriculture training program on our Bugesera campus, and then our Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship majors in Kigali. The position will be based in Kigali with frequent travel to Bugesera in the fall of 2012. Learn more at www.AkilahInstitute.org
Responsibilities
Recruitment & Marketing
- Work with the Akilah Executive Director and Marketing Associate to develop and implement all aspects of a marketing and recruitment strategic plan that communicates the Akilah mission and value proposition to potential students
- Develop promotional materials such as brochures, videos, and flyers
- Use Rwandan media (newspapers, radio, tv, websites) in order to reach potential students throughout the country
- Meet with interested students and families to provide more information about Akilah, give tours to potential students and explain the Akilah educational culture
- Visit secondary schools with current Akilah students to lead information sessions and offer applications to potential students
- Coordinate and participate in special events with potential students
- Develop strong partnerships with other institutions, networks, schools or groups who can assist with identifying quality students
- Conduct focus groups with current Akilah students to understand how they learned about Akilah and target marketing efforts accordingly
- Manage the recruitment budget
Admissions
- Direct and coordinate admissions program with the support of an Admissions Assistant
- Manage database management system to collect and organize all admissions data
- Explain admissions policies and procedures to potential students
- Manage first round interviews on Akilah campus through English and math assessment tests, and second round finalist interviews
- Counsel students who have questions or concerns about admissions process, academic programs, and tuition payments; provide information on potential student loans and/or work/ study options
- Prepare and maintain statistics regarding enrollment, geographical distribution of students, financial aid, and attrition.
Financial Aid
- Supervise and manage financial aid & student loan process
- Conduct home visits of students and interview parents/guardians to assess financial situationand compile financial aid applications for each student. Make a recommendation for each student’s financial aid package
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years professional experience
- Possess and demonstrate a depth of understanding and solid experience around marketing, recruitment, and project management
- Experience working with young women in an academic or professional setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and interact with young Rwandan women
- Strong leader and skillful manager
- Be a thoughtful and thorough planner, both as an individual and a member of a collaborative team, setting and meeting meaningful annual objectives and routinely using performance data and results to inform decision making, goal setting and employing strategies
- Excitement and a positive attitude about working in a dynamic start-up environment
- The capability to develop and maintain positive relationships with community leaders; the ability to maneuver in the community with comfort and credibility
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and planning and organizational skills required
- Competent in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- Strong analytical skills, independent judgment, ability to multi-task, comfortable under pressure and able to meet deadlines while retaining a sense of humor
- -Fluency in English & Kinyarwanda required
